When you join Scouts, you’ll be introduced to lots of new activities, people and things. Here’s everything you need to know.

Scouts are aged 10 & a half to 14 years old

Scout Terminology

Section – Scouting is made up of six Sections; Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers and Network. A child/young person moves up the Sections as they get older and the activities and opportunities provide reflect that age range. All Sections earn badges, take part in camps/sleepovers and outdoor activities.

Woggle – this is a device used to loosely secure the scarf around the neck to a Scout.
Necker – this is the scarf that your child will wear when in uniform.
Patrols – when at their weekly meeting, your child may be split into smaller groups, to carry out activities and tasks together. These smaller groups are referred to as Patrols in Scouting.

The Scout Promise – each Section has a ‘Promise’ which is a simple way to help young people (and adults) keep the Fundamentals of Scouting in mind. The Promise is a commitment made by all Members as they join Scouting.
